Christmas Open House

Our first Bostick family Open House was a huge success. We had a full house and got to enjoy our friends that we've made through the years. I wanted to share a few photos with everyone. There was plenty of good food! That's if you like sweets.

Week 10 # 23

My favorite exercise was the avitar. I really got a kick out of that one. I also enjoyed the U-Tube, because I got to view sooooo many things I didn't know was out there.
This program has taught me to have confidence in myself when it comes to the computer. I rarely ever try something new. I really get nervous using the computer in different areas I haven't been before. This program taught me with a little time and reading instructions you can go places and explore without messing up anything.
My family was very proud of me being able to complete this program by myself. My guys always tease me about needing help for the little things. I proved them wrong this time.
I think anyone who is scared of the computer or is not real sure of themselves when it comes to the computer should spend time with this program. I feel it would really help them out and they would feel more confident on the computer. I believe this was a very good program and I appreciate HCPL for allowing us to do the program.
I would like to learn more about using excel and power point. Maybe in due time. I know these are older programs, but I would really like the opportunity to learn them.

week 9 # 22

I spent my time looking at the movie titles we had to offer. I forget about the DVD collection. My family likes having a family movie night. I would really like to see more family oriented movies on the shelf. It seems we have little kids movies or adult. I like the goldie oldies because I don't have to worry about the language or sexual content. By looking around on this site, I was able to see a little better selection.
I would rather read a book than listen. I just think I get more out of reading a book than listening to it. That's just different strokes for different folks.

Week 9 # 21

I enjoyed looking around seeing the different podcasts. I was surprised to see how many are available to the public. I picked Rush because I really enjoy his podcast.

Week 9 # 21

I enjoy listening to Rush and keeping up with what's really going on in the world. I get so tired of hearing the main-stream media telling part of the story. Hope you will tune in too!

Week 9 # 20 You Tube

I enjoyed looking around You-Tube, I didn't realize how many things were out there. My son is always playing around with it. We've even created some of our own. At the time I didn't realize what my husband and kids were talking about. I'm glad I can finally understand what they were doing.

Week 8 # 19

Thanksgiving at My House

Thanksgiving is a very special holiday at my house. My family every year sit at the table after breakfast and makes a list of things we are thankful for this year. My boys enjoy this part of the holiday every year. It's amazing how things change every year. When they were little they were thankful for the pet, their friends and their family. They were thankful for McDonalds, Burger King, etc. As they gotten older, they have a much bigger list. Now they're thankful for their mom and dad, grandparents and their aunt and uncles. They are thankful for their mom staying home and home-schooling them every year. They are thankful that dad has a good job and enjoys what he does. They are thankful they live in America and are able to go to church. THey are thankful we can pray together and read the BIble together. They are thankful for their salvation and the faith in God. We enjoy our time together as a family and especially all the good food. This year will be a little different because things have changed for us. I used to do the cooking and have my in-laws over for the day. Now my mother-in-law has passed and everyone has kind of gone their own way. We're headed for my sister's house this year to join her family along with my mom and dad. I'm looking forward to doing something a little different.

Week 8 # 18

I was able to find my son on My Space. I knew he had an account, it was really neat finding him and his friends. I liked this one. The other one I enjoyed was "Rate my Space". My husband and I both enjoy watching the home and gardening channel. I'm signing up for this one.

Week 7 # 17

Technology has come so far! I'm glad we're advancing, but I do have a problem with the Video game systems. They come out with new systems and new games before you can turn around good. The new system cost too much money along with the new games. I feel they should develop new games for the old systems as well. My son has a game system that is only a few years old and they have stopped making games for this system. I just think this is a racquet!!! They either need to come down on the prices of these new game systems or continue making games for the older system. I realize this is progress, but I still think something should be done concerning the Game System Industry.

Week 7 #16

I enjoyed working with the wiki. It was really easy to understand. I think I could really enjoy discussing different topics. The library in my opinion could use a Wiki to start a book club. Instead of coming to the library once a month for a discussion, start one on line. I think this would be a big hit!

week 6 # 15

I have found since I've been working at the library, it's more than just books. Before, the only time I came to the library was to find books for reports or research papers. I never realized how many things the library had to offer. These days, people are in such a hurry, they want to be able to come and get what they want without spending time looking for it. We live in such a fast-pace society we don't have time to do a lot of research.
The library as a whole is making changes to help the public learn. I always thought to learn you had to be able to read, now they offer books we can listen to on CD. People can listen in their cars as they're driving back and forth to work. So many people have lap-tops or ipods, in which they use to store information.
Libraries will always be around, I just think you'll begin seeing more electronic devices being used in the library. These devices will store so much more information. I believe there will be more information available. People will be able to access more and more information and stats, etc. The public will be able to use these items more efficiently.

Week 6 # 14

I was able to get on and look around in the "Learning 2.0" program. I was also able to claim my blog on Technorati. It seemed easy to follow and work on. I'm anxious to see if I have any hits on my blog. I think this will be fun. I am enjoying this program because I'm able to take time and look around in all the different programs. I would not usually spend time looking because I'm on and off the computer as fast as possible. I don't take the time to learn anything new.

Week 6 # 13 Tagging makes the world go round

This was easy to use. I found it most helpful. This particular thing will help my family out. I'm a homeschool mom that needs all the help and short cuts she can find. My oldest son is in 10th and we are starting to do more and more research projects. I can see where this is going to be very useful for both of us.

Week 5 # 12

When I tried to work on this section the "ELF" I could not work on the site. It kept going to a page telling me it was not available.

week 5 # 11 - My library thing

In my sidebar is a link to My Library Thing Catalog. It was easy to understand and easy to follow. I think this would be a good set up for a small church library to work with. It was made very simple and was really easy to use.

Week 4 # 9 - finding feeds

I tried all 4 websites that were suggested. I personally enjoyed Feedster the most. I actually was able to find different blogs and post one to my own personal blog. Great for the beginner as well as the advanced. My second choice would have to be Technorati because I could surf pretty easily through the web page. Third would probably be Topix because it seemed a little harder to understand. It seemed you had to know more about the blogs. The hardest one for me was the Syndic 8. It seemed way to advanced for a beginner. I believe I'll stick with "Feedster". It's got my vote!

Week 4 # 8

This exercise was interesting. I didn't realize how many subscriptions were available. I liked how easy it was to use. I thought it would be more complicated than it was. I 'm looking forward to clicking on the different items and getting updated quickly on things that matter to me.

Online Safety and Sharing

Week 2:

Today while reading through the safety of the internet, I was reminded of how costly our carelessness can be. We forget that the person receiving this information could do something we that information. I liked the reminder of questioning ourself before we hit the send button. Don't send anything that can be harmful to myself or my family. A reminder as a parent to be more aware of what my children are looking at and with whom they are sharing their information.

The Kat's Meow

Hey everyone! This is my first attempt at this sort of thing. I hope ya'll will be understanding and help me figure this thing out. I'm looking forward to making new friends and learning some interesting facts about each and everyone of you. My name is Kathy and I just turned 44. I have been a stay-at-home mom for 8 years, I just got back in the work force part time in July. I have been home-schooling for 11 years now. My oldest son is 15 and in the 10th grade. My youngest is 12 and in the 7th. As you can tell I have my hands full. My husband and I have been married going on 18 years. My family loves baseball especially the "Houston Astros". I enjoy talking about baseball and playing the game as well. My hobbies include singing Southern Gospel Music and playing the piano. I have served in several churches as pianist. My husband and I sing together in local churches as well.
